The Louie & Sniffy Home Safety Checklist for electrical and natural gas safety is a great take-home product to get the whole family involved in safety. The item is an 12 x 18 inch sheet that folds down to 6 x 9 inches.
The child uses the checklist to perform his/her own home safety audit. Along the way, there are visits to the family room, kitchen, bedroom, bathrooms and outside the home to look for listed safety hazards. One panel is devoted to natural gas safety (see picture in "Additional Images" tab). For each safe item on the list, the home is awarded points. At the end of the audit, the score is tallied for each room and it is determined whether the home is safe or needs actions to correct safety hazards.
Examples of some of the hazards include: overloaded outlets, appliances near water sources, damaged cords in use, dangerous items close to natural gas appliances, and whether outlet covers and carbon monoxide detectors are being used.
